U-CAT SA 603 is a thermal latent alkali generator. It is a p-toluene sulfonate of 1, 5-diazabicyclic [4.3.0] non-5-ene (DBN). DBN is a strong base commonly used in organic chemistry. However, it is not very stable at room temperature and will break down, releasing ammonia. U-CAT SA 603 is more stable than DBN and does not release ammonia until it is heated to about 160 degrees Celsius. This makes it a safer and more convenient alternative to DBN for use in organic synthesis.
